Doesn’t this graphic look delicious!
It is pretty obvious that candy, sugar, donuts, cakes and all will cause you to stall on the hCG diet. But what if you are doing everything right, not eating junk and you are stalled? What if you have done the hCG diet apple day and hCG diet steak day? What if you are drinking 8-8oz glasses of water and then some? What if the scale only moves with those apple days and steak days and the second you go back to your hCG diet food you stall?
Then my friend it’s time to dig into what you are eating and find the offending foods.
Are you using Splenda or Equal? Splenda and Equal are great to sweeten up your hCG diet tea and add to foods and Splenda you can cook with it, but too much may stall you on the hCG diet. Consider ditching it for Stevia. Stevia is a not only a natural product but it also has a dual function as an appetite suppressant.
But I’ve already stopped the Splenda use and switched to Stevia?
Are you eating eggs as part of your hCG diet food? The egg yolk is a little fat ball and fat has 9 calories per gram. But that isn’t the really bad part about egg yolks. Egg yolks contain arachidonic acid, which is a fatty acid that is good in small doses but too much can promote inflammation. Some people may also be sensitive to arachidonic acid and stall a dieters efforts.
But I only eat egg whites. So what else could stall me on the hCG diet?
Humm, you’re tough nut to crack. Okay moving on.
Are you eating a lot of man made foods? Unfortunately food manufacturers like to add a hint of sweetness (sugar) to make seasonings and foods more appealing to the masses. Check ingredients for the following as it is sugar by another name.
- Corn Sweetner
- Corn Syrup or Corn Syrup Solids
- Dehydrated Cane Juice
- Dextrin
- Dextrose
- Fructose
- Fruit Juice Concentrate
- Glucose
- High-Fructose Corn Syrup
- Honey
- Invert Sugar
- Lactose
- Maltodextrin
- Malt Syrup
- Maltose
- Maple Syrup
- Molasses
- Raw Sugar
- Rice Syrup
- Saccharose
- Sorghum or Sorghum Syrup
- Sucrose
- Syrup
- Treacle
- Turbinado Sugar
- Xylose
- Sugar Alchols
- Maltitol
- Sorbitol
- Maltitol Syrup
- Hydrogenated Starch Hydrolysate
- Xylitol
- Isomalt
- Lactitol
- Mannitol
- Erythritol
WOW huge list!
Okay some of the ingredients I’ve been using are listed. What else could stall me on the hCG diet?
Well, SODA. I know you drink it because you are board to death with water. BUT Soda is probably the #1 staller for most people on the hCG diet or any diet. Not only does it have Equal or Splenda but ascorbic acid and citric acid.
Ascorbic acid is a sugar acid often referred to as Vitamin C. Vitamin C is good but in the synthetic form as often found in soda, may cause you to stall. Of course the food coloring, caramel and such doesn’t help in soda but there it is.
The citric acid can be a sensitivity issue for some people and too many sodas can = too much citric acid.
Anything Else?
Well good old fashion salt. Yes you need salt or rather sodium aids in helping the body maintain homeostasis, the body’s delicate chemical balance. Too much will cause you to retain water which shows up on the scale as a gain or no lose. Again if your into soda vs. water, you may want to reconsider your love affair with soda. If you are heavy handed with seasonings, then you may want to cut down your use of salt and check your man made seasonings for salt.
This is a lot!
But, we are not done. Aonther big offender on the hCG diet that causes stalls is not eating a variety of foods. Having the same meat, vegetable and fruit for lunch and dinner then turn around and replay it for lunch and dinner the next day. You have to keep variety in the hCG diet meals.
This is it right?
Well that is tricky. You are an individual and some things may stall you and not others so you may have to play with the allowed hCG diet foods to see what stalls you. The above are the more obvious stallers. Start from there and rule out different things for you while you are actively dieting.
Another thing,
Check your body fat measurements as well as your weight. You should do this from the start, but sometimes the body may not lose weight but the inches are coming off aka FAT or vise verse and sometimes everything is 100% perfect in your diet and suddenly a woosh happens. This is called Woosh Fairy and she is fickle at passing out her weight loss dreams. Read about the Woosh Fairy it may help understand and know you are not alone. And she, the Woosh Fairy has a poem!

@ Nancy: Releana is considered real and is only from a doctor or clinic. However the ONLY way to be 100% sure you are using REAL hCG is to use a hCG pregnancy test strip. Follow the directions on the strip, expect dip it into the bottle. That is the only proof you will ever really have.

Thanks for all your valuable information…after compleating the first 2 days of loading (Releana) I am on the 4th day of the RELEANA sub-lingual drops but only the 2nd day of 500 calorie diet – and I lost 7 lbs when I weighed this morning! Can you please tell me if RELEANA are REAL HCG or a homeopathic formula? I do want to be on only the Real HCG and wonder if I should switch to the injections or is the Releana considered the real deal and effective?
Thanks so much for your input.
Hi, I’ve been on the diet 7 days now and the first 2 days I lost 6lbs! Then thats when it got confusing, lost 1 then gain .5 then the same and now on the 7th day stablized on the same weight as on day 2. Is there any thing else I can do? Plus I’ve got hunger and cravings so I drink more. Help need some encouragement I don’t want to fail.
Ok so I am allergic to the vegetables that are allowed on this program, what if anything can I do to get the calories needed without stalling progress. And make this hungry feeling stop more. I will try the stevia for appetite control a bit but am just having a hard time figuring out what to do with the limited vegetable options I am able to eat with my allergies. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
@ 49nnrgrl: headaches are not really related to when you eat but the going from carb/sugar burning to fat and protein burning. The more sugar you have in your system the worse the headache will be.
Well today is day one for me. So far so good, except the headache. I get up at 4:00 a.m. and typically have lunch at 10:30 a.m. so I’m thinking that is probably when I should have my first meal rather than waitin until 12:00 p.m.
Any thoughts?
No hCG doesn’t ‘cure’ a sweet tooth. A Candida cleanse can help big time and controlling blood sugar is the cure for curing a sweet tooth. Insulin spikes, yeast in the gut causes cravings. Think of yeast this way, have you seen the movie Little Shop of Horrors? The plant wanted more food and the more food he got the bigger he got. Yeast/Candida is the same way, the more bad foods you feed the yeast through the years the more you crave sweets. When you stop the demand is still there the craving doesn’t stop until you kill the yeast and control the insulin spikes.
Try:
Chromium 200 micrograms 3x a day
**Biotin 9-16 milligrams 3-6 x a day
L-Glutamine pop open a capsule let dissolve under tongue.
(**Warning High Dosage of Biotin for Type I and II diabetics drops blood sugar very very fast)

MY QUESTION IS THIS HCG SUPPOSE TO CURE MY SWEET TOOTH. IF SO IT NOT HAPPENING. HELP
I am in my third round p2 day4 of homeopathic drops and i want to switch to real hcg. what should i do? do i stop the drops now and do days one and two again?
@Gina: My site is a portal for hCG diet supplies and products. As long as you obtain REAL hCG you will be okay for doing oral hCG or injecting hCG. Most products are homeopathic which contain little to no hCG in them. Nothing I recommend is homeopathic hCG.
Oral hCG is of course faster no mixing and the drops I recommend are 4 drops 3x a day.
Injecting hCG will require supplies, you will have to get hCG diet kits as well as the hCG ampules, mix yourself. Look at This page also for hCG mixing instructions for injecting. Most people do the 5000 IU’s
Both have to be kept refrigerated and avoid light. And both are effective.

I have a question about injections vs oral hcg
is there a difference? Would you recommend one over the other, and would you be willing to email me some places where I can get the product? I read about this 3 years ago, and now see more oral hcg, which is what I would like to do, since there is no clinic in Cleveland and I dont want to start injecting myself with stuff if I dont have to… any recommendations?
@ LisaK: Weight does fluctuate, that is normal. Are you getting your water? 8 oz 8x a day or 8 glasses at minimum. For every 25lbs over ideal body weight, add 8 oz (from what I remember off hand).
For veggies, What I do is if my allotment of calories is 500 so 250 per meal. Add the calories you know, meat, fruit, break stick, then fill the rest with the veggies. That would round out to 250. A good calorie counter is Corinne Netzer.
Splenda can stall or cause cravings, you have to judge.
When you say liquid hCG do you mean a homeopathic formula? Homeopathic doesn’t have hCG in it. Get a pregnancy test and test it. If it has hCG it will show up, if it doesn’t it won’t. You can’t be a little pregnant. Please use real oral hCG when doing this diet to rest your metabolism and preserve your muscle mass among other benefits.

Hello, i am on my fifth day on the hcg diet and the liquid hcg. I have some questions. 1. is it ok to use Splenda? 2. is it ok to drink crystal light? 3. on the first day of the diet, i lost two pounds, second day i lost 1.5 pounds and then the third day i gained 0.2 oz. . This morning i dropped 4 oz. is this normal to even gain at all when i am eating so few calories?
Also i am having a hard time with portion sizes with my veggies…..what do you suggest?
How long do you feel tired and weak on this diet? I don’t know how they can say the hunger goes away. It has not for me.
Well I just use plain Splenda or Stevia, but Stevia comes in a wide variety of flavors. Go to the navigation up top and click on hCG Diet Shop and there should be Stevia there.
IF you are really feeling sick and weak, then add some additional protein to your diet, it will slow your lose but you will feel better.
Yes those that have a lot to lose, will lose faster, those with a little to lose will lose slow. That’s the way of it! And MEN! They just take it off like wild fire!
Yes I agree. You have to weight yourself in the am before drinking or eating anything butt naked! A good scale with big numbers (I like digital scales) is best. Also you have no clue when the scale at work was last calibrated, how old it is etc. Unless you are working a a doctors office then you stand a better chance of it being accurate.
I’m redoing the site a bit so there will be links to a bunch of hCG diet products, resources and more.
In the meantime, have you measured yourself? How are your clothes fitting? Those are also signs of inch loss vs. weight loss. Both are good but the scale is easier to jump on and see for instant gratification.
Don’t worry, if your eating the foods and did your mix correctly, you are more then likely losing. In this case it’s more then likey the office scale. =-)
SimonSaysMom:
Hi, I have a question. I am on my 5th day of the HCG Injections (first time, just started). I don’t have a scales at home so I weighed after I got to work. My weight has not moved. I had already drank 20 oz of water and some organic green tea so maybe that can affect it and it was at noon before eating lunch. When I seen I had not moved weight wise after 5 days it almost made me sick, like a nausas feeling. The people (with whom I am going to for the diet) tell me not to worry. They tell me to take 3 pounds off for clothes and there is a difference in weighing first thing in the morning vs. midday.
I just want to know if you agree? I read about people losing 8 pounds in a week and here I am on my 5th day and barely moving. I was surprised at the scale because I felt like I was losing.
Thanks,
Pam
1st that sounds GREAT! I don’t think it would interfere the alcohol in extract is a lot (generally 95-97% alcohol) but I’m guessing your not using a lot of it of extract. IF you lose and stick the rest of the diet as is you should be fine. IF you notice sweet cravings happening you may want to ditch your little treat.
Enjoy till it’s an issue for you!
I just finished my 2 load days and am now starting the diet protocol. Do you think this is OK? I take ice, water, real vanlla extract, 2 packs of Truvia and blend. This makes a great evening slushie. I want to make certain it is OK for the protocol though
Can you start working out in Phase 3, if so what is the recommendation?
Thank you!
I cannot find any info anywhere indicating whether or not you can do a colon cleanse while in phase 2?
I appreciate you for this kind of useful article! Furthermore have got a weblog and i am thinking, how can i acquire such excellent theme like yours?

how does lite beer affect the hcg diet?
I just want to say how much I appreciate the info on your site.
I just started the HCG diet and my brain is about to explode with info. However, I can’t seem to find any info regarding sugarless gum.. I think that the “…less” part of sugarless could be disguised as one of the listed sugar “akas” above. Do you know what I can use to substitute gum? I am preparing for the possibility of dry mouth and/or some bad breath (due to the low cal intake). Any advise?
I LOVE your site! So much hcg diet info and so entertaining. I’ve read a few of your blog posts and wanted to just say thanks for having this site on the hcg diet. I didn’t know sugar came in so many names. I am going to start checking my measurements as well and I like the Woosh Fairy. Do you still low carb diet? Are you going to low carb diet after the hcg diet?
