How To Cheat On The hCG Diet

Cheating on the hCG Diet Protocol?

Has anyone followed the leptin results? Leptin is an amino acid that is produced in the body’s fat cells. Leptin is often called the obesity gene because as leptin increases, your body fat increases as well. However, while studies have shown that decreasing leptin will decrease fat, leptin as a weight loss drug has not been found as effective in humans as it has in mice.

Barring the weight loss drug ‘potential’ aspects of leptin, the actions of leptin may be important to hCG weight loss because leptin plays a part in regulating hunger, food intake and energy expenditure. Leptin acts on the brain stem, which acts on serotonin, a hormone that controls appetite and mood.

An interesting point concerning leptin deals with how it can affect hCG weight loss. As the hCG diet protocol decreases fat, leptin levels fall causing an increase in cravings. Note that Dr. Simeons’ protocol as written in Pounds and Inches, calls for a break in the hCG diet protocol because the hCG hormone is thought to build immunity. Could in fact it be the effects of leptin vs. the hCG hormone?

Being on a VLCD for extended periods will actually decrease metabolism, which will seriously hinder and impede your fat loss. On the original hCG diet protocol, Dr. Simeons calls for cycling your hCG weight loss, then doubling the off weeks as you move forward. People are not very patient today, and when you are motivated to lose weight, you want to lose weight quickly as the hCG diet protocol promises.

Then, would having a cheat day on the hCG diet be a good thing for your long-term hCG diet weight loss goals? Well, it seems if you want to avoid the effects of leptin on fat, hunger and cravings, combined with the effects of a VLCD that can also cause physical hunger, cravings and a slow metabolism stopped with the hCG diet protocol cycle off periods, then YES. A planned cheat day every so often could be, in the longer run, better for you on the hCG diet protocol.

But then the question is HOW to cheat on the hCG diet protocol. As we know, when hCG is coursing through our systems, we can gain weight pretty quickly. Therefore, the key is to eat good carbs and good fats (omega 3s, olive oils), vs. junk carbs and fats. Feeling satisfied and full will avoid the feelings of hunger and deprivation.

Fiber is an excellent source of good carbs, and keeps you feeling satisfied.

Miracle Noodles are a food item that is perfect during the hCG diet protocol, during a planned hCG diet protocol cheat, and well, just any time. Miracle Noodles have ZERO net carbs and ZERO calories and consist of water and glucomannan (a soluble fiber). Soluble fiber acts to slow digestion, which allows for slower absorption and prolongs the sensation of fullness.

@SinatraBoy, My husband and I are doing the same diet... at first he was eating sporadically and feeling like he was starving. I was eating every 3 hours and feeling great. Finally, he started making sure he ate something every 3 hours, too... and is now doing great. It doesn't take much and it keeps your metabolism going (added benefit). When I fix dinner at night, I make enough for tomorrow's lunch and I make sure we have fruit for snacks! This little bit of prep has helped us be very successful. Eat regularly & Good luck!
@SinatraBoy, What hCG are you taking? Homeopathic? Real hCG Drops? or Injecting? IF You are taking homeopathic I have no clue as they do not contain hCG. If you are doing Real hCG Drops (Like the hCG Body Shaper) or Injections. You may want to increase your drops or injections a bit. Did you do a Candida cleanse prior to the hCG diet? Are you drinking the hCG Diet Teas? Both really do help with controlling cravings and hunger. You may want to read hCG Diet Cravings as well.
[...] a planned cheat, you may gain weight or you may lose weight. No I am not talking in circles, the Leptin Theory plays a role the answer. Who will gain or who will lose, I can’t answer that. It is truly a YMMV [...]
I've started the hcg phase2, done the 1st 2days of gorging, but now it's day 9 & I still can't seem to stick with the diet...so, I kept on being on hcg +loading for extra 7days...of course there was weight gain & even though I was stressed before that, now I am just freaking out...how do I get back on track, I desperately need to lose those 35lbs or more...I cannot be happy with myself otherwise...what the point of having a closet full of beautiful clothes while my behind cannot fit into any of them...I need to find that strength within myself to carry on, but I do need a little bit of help as far as somebody to tell me that I can keep on going & it all going to be alright in the end...Help...
@Svetlana, I'll tell you the same thing I told SinatraBoy (above), My husband and I are doing the same diet… at first he was eating sporadically and feeling like he was starving. I was eating every 3 hours and feeling great. Finally, he started making sure he ate something every 3 hours, too… and is now doing great. It doesn’t take much and it keeps your metabolism going (added benefit). When I fix dinner at night, I make enough for tomorrow’s lunch and I make sure we have fruit for snacks! This little bit of prep has helped us be very successful. Eat regularly & Good luck! This is worth it!!!
It is the Leptin principal. However I would not recommend this strategy as it requires discipline to NOT over eat, have your cravings under control and really understand what you are doing.
I just cheated my first time on the diet on day 20... I went out and for one meal had 1 plate of chinese. I had been loosing 1-2 pounds per day weeks 1-2 and in week 3 it was like 0.2lb or 0.4lb . Now after my cheat I gained 2 pounds...and have now taken the 2lbs back off and am loosing 1.2 pounds per day...so I think a cheat is ok maybe every 2 weeks to shock your body.
@Michelle, I cheated yesterday for the first time, I am also on day 20 of my second round. I just wanted food and now I feel super guilty and down:/ However, Reading this made me feel alot better. 1 cheat day per vlcd cycle might not be such a bad idea. I went the first round without cheating but this round I have been struggling with cravings and insomnia not sure if that is linked.
@Mom23, Did you do the Candida cleanse? In my book I did with the site owner of hCG Diet Info, The Naked Truth About The hCG Diet, there are a bunch of other 'cures' for cravings. Now the insomnia is a 'new' I would try melatonin. I have never tried it, I do need it however as I've had insomnia on and off for a few years now. BUT my doctor said it works great and recommended melatonin over prescription sleeping pills!
