Foods That Stall hCG Diet

DOESN’T THIS GRAPHIC LOOK DELICIOUS?

It is pretty obvious that candy, sugar, donuts, cakes, and similar foods will cause you to stall on the hCG diet. But what if you are doing everything right, not eating junk, and you are still stalled? What if you have done the hCG diet apple day and hCG diet steak day? What if you are drinking 8-8oz glasses of water and then some? What if the scale only moves with those apple days and steak days, and the second you go back to your hCG diet food, you stall?

Then, my friend it’s time to dig into what you are eating and find the offending foods.

Are you using Splenda or Equal? Splenda and Equal are great to sweeten up your hCG diet tea, and add to foods. Plus, you can cook with Splenda, but too much may stall you on the hCG diet. Consider ditching Splenda for Stevia. Stevia is a not only a natural product, but it also has a dual function as an appetite suppressant.

But I’ve already stopped using Splenda and switched to Stevia?

Are you eating eggs as part of your hCG diet food? The egg yolk is a little fat ball, and fat has 9 calories per gram. But that isn’t the really bad part about egg yolks. Egg yolks contain arachidonic acid, which is a fatty acid that is good in small doses, but too much can promote inflammation. Some dieters, who may also be sensitive to arachidonic acid, stand a good chance of a stall in their dieting efforts.

But I only eat egg whites. So what else could stall me on the hCG diet?

Humm, you’re tough nut to crack. Okay moving on.

Are you eating a lot of manmade foods? Unfortunately, food manufacturers like to add a hint of sweetness (sugar) to make seasonings and foods more appealing to the masses. Check ingredients for the following, as they are sugar by another name.

• Corn Sweetener
• Corn Syrup or Corn Syrup Solids
• Dehydrated Cane Juice
• Dextrin
• Dextrose
• Fructose
• Fruit Juice Concentrate
• Glucose
• High-Fructose Corn Syrup
• Honey
• Invert Sugar
• Lactose
• Maltodextrin
• Malt Syrup
• Maltose
• Maple Syrup
• Molasses
• Raw Sugar
• Rice Syrup
• Sacchalose
• Sorghum or Sorghum Syrup
• Sucrose
• Syrup
• Treacle
• Turbinado Sugar
• Xylose
• Sugar Alcohols
• Maltitol
• Sorbitol
• Maltitol Syrup
• Hydrogenated Starch Hydrolysate
• Xylitol
• Isomalt
• Lactitol
• Mannitol
• Erythritol

WOW huge list!

Okay some of the ingredients I’ve been using are listed. What else could stall me on the hCG diet?

Well, SODA. I know you drink it because you are bored to death with water. BUT Soda is probably the #1 staller for most people on the hCG diet or any diet. Not only does it have Equal or Splenda, but also ascorbic and citric acid.

Ascorbic acid is a sugar acid often referred to as Vitamin C. Vitamin C is good, but in the synthetic form as often found in soda, it may cause you to stall. Of course the food coloring, caramel and such doesn’t help in soda, but there it is.

The citric acid can be a sensitivity issue for some people, and too many sodas can = too much citric acid.

Anything Else?

Well, good old fashion salt. Yes, you need salt. Salt, or sodium, aids in helping the body maintain homeostasis, the body’s delicate chemical balance. Too much salt will cause you to retain water, which shows up on the scale as a gain or no loss. Again, if you’ re into soda vs. water, you may want to reconsider your love affair with soda. If you are heavy handed with seasonings, then you may want to cut down on your use of salt, and check your man made seasonings for salt.

This is a lot!

But, we are not done. Another big offender on the hCG diet that causes stalls is not eating a variety of foods. Avoid eating the same meat, vegetable, and fruit for lunch and dinner, and then turning around and replaying it for lunch and dinner the next day. You have to keep variety in the hCG diet menu.

This is it right?

Well, that is tricky. You are an individual and some things may stall you and not others, so you may have to play with the allowed hCG diet foods to see what stalls you. The above are the more obvious stallers. Start from there and rule out different things while you are actively dieting.

Another thing,

Check your body fat measurements, as well as your weight. You should do this from the start, but sometimes the body may not lose weight, but the inches are coming off, aka FAT or vise versa, and sometimes everything is 100% perfect in your diet, and suddenly, a woosh happens. This is called the Woosh Fairy, and she is fickle at passing out her weight loss dreams. Read about the Woosh Fairy, it may help you understand, and know you are not alone. And she, the Woosh Fairy has a poem!

I lost 30 pounds during my first VLC phase - did 21 days of maintenance and started the VLC again - I have been on the strict protocol for 9 days now and have only lost 1 pound. Is the weight loss less the 2nd time??? HELP - it is hard to stick to this diet if I am not losing weight (or inches)

This will list exactly what you need to do to get your weight loss started up again.

I ordered Hcg Ultra from another site (it was the first site I found with any information on hcg drops) and the instructions they sent me were completely wrong. The leaflet they inclosed and the dosing instructions on the bottle were wrong. I had to go through an online chat with their customer service to get the right dosage after having taken it wrong for a week. The diet that was included was only a short paragraph with a few menu samples. I have been on several different sites and keep seeing that there are different phases to this diet, something that was also not mentioned in my instructions. I am on day 8 and have lost 12 lbs going solely by a 500 calorie diet . If I am supposed to be doing my diet in phases could you please give me a link to see what they are and also a list of allowed foods?
@Wendy Harris,

First hCG Ultra are homeopathic and homeopathic have been proved to have 0 hCG in them.  You need to test your hCG bottle to see if they have hCG in them.

Your body is in starvation mode without real hCG and you will be losing lean muscle mass, have bone lose and yes some fat loss.  The FDA and FTC are working to take homeopathic off the market as it's fake, contains 0 hCG and has mislead the public.

To do the hCG diet you need real hCG drops, hCG pills or hCG injections.

Here are some simple steps

  1. Test your hCG
  2. IF it won't test take it back for a full refund.
  3. Know what to look for when buying drops, read The Best hCG Drops
  4. Buy Real hCG
  5. Know the Benefits of Real hCG

Hope That Helps

Will a small amount of sugar or starch found in allergy medications or supplements cause a stall?
@Jeralynn,

Supplements you can change.  Allergy meds if it's a script, you really can't.  However to answer yes it can. Cravings can be stirred and even stalls can happen.

Another "reason" for a stall and a reason to measure yourself as well as weigh: check your scale! I now have 2 scales in my bathroom because of two very busy boys of mine who enjoy coming in my bathroom and climbing on my scale, accidently spilling water on it, weighing various bathroom items, trying to weight both of them at the same time, picking it up and moving it, ETC! Last round I realized the scale was doing quirky things.... hmm wonder why! All that to say, make sure your scale is zero'ed out if yours does that, make sure the batteries are not old, get your husband or someone else to weight and see if it seems right, and/or buy a back-up scale. Also, cheaper scales seem much more finicky. I know we would all love to blame our stalls on our scales and they usually are not to blame, but sometimes it can be a factor!
I am on day 32 of phase 2 and have not lost anything for the past 6 days...i have not changed anything and even tried a steak day and an apple day...i lost weight during each of the days, but as soon as i went back to the 500 calorie days, my weight would go back to the same thing...could my body just be immune to it now since i am so close to the 42 day or should i just keep trying? ( I started Jan 28 with the drops)

Hi, Love this site, by the way. I thought I'd post the reason for a recent stall, just so I can help others who might be in the same predicament. It is actually quite stupid, now that I think about it; nevertheless the reason did not occur to me until I saw it online and then went "OH! That's why!" I have Dr. Simeon's manuscript "Pounds and Inches" which I stick to FAITHFULLY. No veering off course with making chocolate desserts with coconut oil and cocoa (not in the original protocol!), using sweeteners other than stevia, no fruits/veggies or meats that aren't listed. I could not understand why I was able to lose 15 pounds in one week and then totally STALL, for 3 days. Then I figured out that I had bought frozen shrimp and they came in a bag; nice and convenient with the tails off, perfectly ready to weigh on my digital kitchen scale and portion out in freezer bags. Well, one fact that escaped we was: they were COOKED!!! I just did not realize it. So I was weighing 100 grams of the COOKED shrimp and getting way too much protein/calories and I wasn't in ketosis anymore.

A very interesting fact about ketosis (for those who don't know what it is, simply put, it's the process whereby your body excretes ketones in the urine to signify that you are burning your fat stores) is that my urine smelled strange from the day I started the VLCD. I thought I had a bladder infection and had blood and urine tests done, but I am fine. That smell is due to ketosis, and some people have a strange smell to their urine or get bad breath when in that state, and others don't. I happen to be one of the lucky ones who do! It is useful from an Hcg diet standpoint, because I know when I am burning fat. WHEN I STARTED EATING THE SHRIMP (THE DAY BEFORE THE STALL STARTED) THE SMELL WAS GONE! WHEN I REALIZED MY ERROR AND OMITTED THE SHRIMP, THE SMELL CAME BACK! Isn't that neat?

I know stalls are normal, but I have a lot of weight to lose, so hopefully if I don't unknowingly commit any more errors, the scale should keep going down and I won't have any more 3 day stalls.

I thought I was pregnant and it was driving me BATTY. By the way, I have a question: I have missed my period, which was due 5 days ago. I have a copper IUD which has not been expelled, it is still there. I have not had intercourse since a few weeks before starting the protocol. I did, however, start the protocol only 7 days before my period was due, not at least 10 days before like Dr. Simeons suggested in his manuscript. Due to logistics such as events on the calendar I have to attend, and having to do this HCg diet twice before the summer and getting my 6 weeks off in between, it just wasn't possible to wait any longer to start the protocol. Is missing a period normal? I am injecting 200 IU of Hcg daily, and perhaps my body just thinks I am pregnant? Could that be the reason for the missed period? Will it come back regularly when I am done? Just wondering if others have had this issue. I have read some comments on different blogs, but it has been mostly people posting and then not responding afterwards to say whether they were, in fact, pregnant, or if it was just Hcg. Wanted to ask an expert. Thanks! :) Nicole

@Nicole,

Good for your find!!  Yes pre cooked items do weigh more and sometimes they contain salt or other preservatives.

About your cycle, using hCG can make your cycle heavy, light, cramps, no cramps, late, early or miss it.
