hCG Diet Holiday Break

Well it is that time of year that dieting becomes difficult for most. The top questions right now are; How do you take a break on the hCG diet? How do you cheat on the hCG diet? What happens when you cheat on the hCG diet? I am planning to cheat on the hCG diet? How do you recover from a hCG diet cheat? And well you get it, most want to break for Thanksgiving, are planning on cheating, or want to make sure they can recover.

Rest assured this article will help guide you through the ins and outs of breaking, cheating, and recovery on the hCG Diet.

hCG Diet Break

Dr. Simeons does address a break or interruption on the hCG diet after 20 injections or oral hCG.

“If an interruption of treatment lasting more than four days is necessary, the patient must increase his diet to at least 800 calories by adding meat, eggs, cheese, and milk to his diet after that third day, as otherwise he will find himself so hungry and weak that he is unable to go about his usual occupation. If the interval lasts less than two weeks the patient can directly resume injections and the 500-caloire diet, but if the interruption lasts longer he must again eat normally until he has had his third injection.

When a patient knows beforehand that he will have to travel and be absent for more than four days, it is always better to stop injections three days before he is due to leave so that he can have the three days of strict dieting which are necessary after the last injection at home.”

What this means is if you are planning to go away for the Thanksgiving Day holiday or even Christmas holiday and you don’t want to be on the hCG diet during that time, follow the instructions above. Stop injections or oral hCG as you would when you are at the end of the hCG Diet Phase 2. However, you should still follow the no starch or sugar rule.

hCG Diet Planned Cheat

If you are just planning to cheat on Thanksgiving Day only, DO NOT INJECT or take the ORAL hCG. hCG takes about 3 days to totally leave your system and you may gain rapidly during that cheat time. Missing one dose won’t hurt, especially if you are going to have a planned cheat day.

After a planned cheat, you may gain weight or you may lose weight. No I am not talking in circles, the Leptin Theory plays a role in the answer. Who will gain or who will lose, we can’t answer that. It is truly a YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary) as we are all individuals.

hCG Diet Cheat Recovery

After you have cheated or had your planned break, the next thing is to recover and get back on the hCG diet ASAP. Take your gains, suck it up and ride the pony to your goal with strict dieting from this cheat fourth.

Increase you exercise routine, add an extra 30 min to your activity. If you don’t exercise then start until the scale is moving again.
Increase your water intake.
Use some natural diuretics to rid your body of any water gains.
Cut the break sticks and Melba toast.
Use an Apple day or Steak Day the day you get back on hCG injections or Oral hCG.


Dieting isn’t easy and the hCG diet is hardcore. But there is a reason you decided to do this diet, there is a reason you chose now to lose weight. Whatever your goal is, use that to guide you back on your track, keep you focused and you will obtain your desired result.


I need help understanding if I should do a planned cheat or a planned interruption for Thanksgiving. (no, not eating somewhat normally is not an option!) I am in R2, VLCD 30. I started at 154.4 (159 post load days) My goal is 135.0 I had hoped to be reach my goal by last weekend, but regardless of P2 or P3, this last Saturday I had a planned cheat day. I started Saturday morning weighing in 139.4. Scale went up to 142 Sunday, then 144 on Monday. Tuesday morning (this morning) I was down to 142.4. I am worried it will take me all week to get back to 139...and then I fear a repeat with the family holiday approaching! My family gathering is out of town and runs Friday night to Saturday night. I am only worried about the Thanksgiving feast on Saturday. Should I go off HCG to do a planned interruption of mostly P3 (plus 1 meal of Thanksgiving, no leftovers!) and save the last 10 days of the diet for when I can totally be on protocol? I could go off (tomorrow?) and restart when we return either Sunday or Monday (I understand it is a 4 day minimum for the planned interruption, is that right?) Thanks for your help!

Or for three days prior, since it takes three days to leave our system? If it's three days prior, we still do VLCD on the days that are NOT Thanksgiving Day?
Ok. I have read the above info and still am not sure what to do. Not sure if i'm being dumb or tired. HELP. I am going on a mini vacay for Thanksgiving arriving Wed. night at destination and coming home Saturday. BIG family meals. I had been on HCG injections for 2 months, took a month off, have been on for about a month and will be on for another month. Have 20 more lbs. to go. Don't want to horribly screw this up. What do I need to do? Help please.
I know it's early...but I am going to a family reunion On Thanksgiving day and plan on taking that day off hcg. What is Steak day and how does it work in getting me back on track and losing again? Thanks
@linda, At Diet Doc we don't advise the apple day or the steak day. The best way to get back on track is to drink extra electrolyte water, eat just your vegetables and proteins, and ensure you don't go below your minimum calorie level of 700. Don't add fruit back into your diet until you're back into ketosis.

The phases you are talking about really ring back to the 60 year old protpcol. Hi there.. I am on Day 11 of Phase2. On day 23 i will be going to Vegas for 3 days. I want to do the 43 day of Phase 2. When i return i will do a steak day and get back on track for the remaining 2 weeks. I am unsure if I am to stop taking the drops while I am in vegas ?
Hi. I did my 2 loading days. Yesterday was my day 1 of VLCD. I was doing well but I had a massive viral attack with headache and body aches, and what's more I got my period yesterday too. So I ate a normal dinner yesterday and did not take the drops this morning. I want to be back on the diet after 3or4 days. Please tell me how to start. Do I do the loading phase again and start over?

You will  need to start all over from Loading days.
