After the hCG Diet

What do we eat on the hCG Phase 3 after the hCG diet weight loss phase is over? That seems to be a question that plagues many hCG dieters. It isn’t hard to do the hCG diet phase 3 or to know what to eat, however it is as personal as your DNA.

After the hCG diet, Dr. Simeons states that you can eat what you want, but as stated, in the hCG phase 3 section, eating what you want is personal and not as simple as eating Low Carb or Mediterranean Style or following South Beach.

While on the hCG diet Phase 2, the injection phase, you are eating a very strict 500 calorie diet with specific hCG diet foods. Dr. Simeons designed the hCG diet foods for optimal and quick fat loss.

After this phase, you enter hCG diet phase 3 to maintain your weight which Dr. Simeons left very vague and open. Unfortunately, fifty years ago, Dr. Simeons did not have to contend with how food is processed today, genetically engineered foods, or food allergies that have developed and are more common fifty years later. This alone is a strong reason to eat organic foods.

Stronger antibiotics used in our meat sources, stronger pesticides used on fruits and vegetables we consume, in addition to methods of food processing, sensitivities to foods, and food allergies may play a significant role in what you can and cannot eat in your hCG diet phase 3, or ongoing maintenance or eating plan for life.

I saw on an Ph 3 list Hummis. It is my favorite snack but it is made from chick peas which are a starchy carb - I realize high in protein - please let me know if I should wait until Ph 3 is over

There is a food list for Phase 3, Hummus is not on the P3 Food list we have here.  Chickpeas are on the After P3 list on the same page.  Haven't a clue what list you are looking.

Hi.. In about 8 days i will be starting mainteance phase.. My questions are the following: does the steak day apply just to the first 3 weeks of mainteance or does it apply to the entire 6 weeks of mainteance?.. and how will you know when your weight has stabilized after the first 3 weeks of mainteance no sugar & no starch?

Apple and Stead day are for P2 and P3 use not for maintenance (after P3).  When you start introducing foods back into your diet (sugars and starches) and you are maintaining your weight, that is how you know you are stable. 


I have read that you can have one egg and two or three egg whites as a substitution for a protein during phase 2. I only eat two of the proteins offered during stage two and need something a little different. Also, could I just use egg whites as a protein during phase 2?
@Nancy Lee, Yes you can have 1 egg and 2 egg whites during P2. Yes you can use the egg whites but you may get tired of that as well. I say use as much variety as you can for the proteins allowed. Food boredom leads to diet failure.
Hello, I am still in P2 but I am trying to read and understand what I need to do when I start P3. I understand the 21 days on P3 “No Sugar or Starch.” Is it then my understanding I can reintroduce them after the 21 days? I enjoy my pasta and breads, I tend to make my own breads and pasta is that better then store or is the same. Reading the web site it says eat anything you want, but in moderations. I was on weight watchers before I started the hCG diet, can I return to that during P3, but one thing, I do buy their smart-ones in the frozen section of the supermarket is that ok?
@Kris, You can reintroduce them but I would 1st introduce them slowly to see if they cause you to gain. Stick with 1 method of eating for life that won't cause a gain. Pre made pre packaged foods are never an ideal way to eat. Try reading hCG Diet Phase 3 Foods
Just started phase 3 today. I am a little confused about what and how to eat. I found the phase 3 food list which is very helpful, can we eat all the same things as phase 2 just add in the additional foods from phase 3? I noticed that oranges and apples are not on the phase 3 list. Am I correct that dairy is not included until after phase 3? The recipes show phase 3 versions with cheese. Also wondering if we still not eat until after noon or do we go back to eating at breakfast time.
@Janet, You can eat everything on P2 and P3 food list. Again this is not a true P3 list as Dr. Simeons did not have one or provide much other than NO sugar or starch. You will have to see what works for you during P3 the stabilization phase and then after for maintenance. If you see that eating certain foods throws you above the 2 pounds then you will have to ditch that food item. This is only a guide as to what works best based on how we eat today (very processed foods), and what food intolerances come up for people after a diet such as this. HTH
