hCG Diet FAQ

What is hCG?

hCG stands for, Human Chorionic Gonadotripin, which is a glycoprotein hormone produced during pregnancy.  hCG can be found in the urine of pregnant women when the hormone is at its highest levels.  hCG can be made synthetically or extracted for the urine of a pregnant women then processed for human use.  Typically, on the hCG diet protocol you will be prescribed synthetic hCG for use on the diet.

Where can I buy hCG or other supplies?

You can buy hCG and many other hCG diet needs, hCG diet foods, cookbooks and more, at the hCG online store.  The hCG online store will be updated often so bookmark the site and check back to see what’s added and new recommendations for your overall health and well being.

How does the hCG diet protocol work?

The hCG diet protocol works by telling the hypothalamus to release your stored body fat.  A small amount of hCG hormone can cause your stored body fat to be released through the kidneys.  And the hcg diet is effective in both males and females.

The calories you eat on the hCG diet protocol are low, typically 500 calories a day.  The hcg diet plan is restrictive to prevent the fat cells from storing new fat and the new fat from being stored in the adipose tissues while you are actively on the hCG diet protocols various treatments or phases either Dr. Simeons Pounds and Inches hCG diet protocol or Kevin Trudeau’s The Weight Loss Cure hCG diet plan.

Or if you want to go to a clinic, you can find one in your area by doing a custom search for hCG diet clinics.

The hCG diet protocol can reset your metabolism and protects your essential fat (fat between your organs and needed body fat) and muscle tissue while restricting your caloric intake.

How much hCG should I take?

Dr. Simones suggests a dosage between 125-175 iu’s.  Kevin Trudeau recommends 175-200 iu’s.  You may have to play with your dosage to see what dosage works for you to help ease hCG diet hunger.

Will I be hungry on the hCG diet protocol?

No.  Typically you won’t be hungry on the hCG diet protocol because the stored fat will be releasing its energy, stored calories, and helping to fuel  your body while you are doing your daily activities.

Remember there are 3 primary sources of fuel for the body.  Protein, Carbohydrates and Fats.  Your body will use Carbohydrates 1st, then Protein 2nd and Fat 3rd , when it can.  By restricting your intake while on the hCG diet protocol of carbohydrates and fats,  you are forcing your body to use your body’s stored Fat, from your fat cells, first for energy.  This adipose tissue, body fat, will be released by the hCG hormone while on the hCG diet protocol  into your blood stream and fuel your body while the excess excreted as waste.

Will I have a headache while on the hCG diet protocol?

Some people may experience headaches in the first few days of the hCG diet protocol as your body becomes adjusted to the how it is getting the fuel, energy, it needs to operate.  Your body’s body fat vs. carbohydrates.   Some people do not have headaches and some do the first few days on the hCG diet protocol.  Everyone has a different experience on the hCG diet protocol.  But a headache is normal and will go away in a day or two.

The hcg headache should be looked at as a single of begin on the hCG diet protocol and at this delicate time you may be overwhelmed to just gorge on whatever is near.  DON’T.  It will go away you are just extra sensitive to the switch that has taken place in your body.  See hCG Diet Gorge Days post.  This may help you avoid the headache on your hCG diet plan.

You can simply drink extra water (as some headaches are related to dehydration), take what you would usually take for a headache and it will pass.  You can read a tale of hCG diet headache woe and you can read how to adjust, causes and other hCG diet headache information.

Will taking hCG while on the hCG diet protocol cause side effects?

hCG is a natural hormone.  Pregnant women produce upwards of 200,000 IU a day, to stimulate ovulation and men are sometimes prescribed hCG to increase sperm where the recommended treatment dosage is 5,000 to 10,000 IU.  The hCG diet protocol recommends 125 IU to 200 IU per day while actively on protocol.

Some hCG side effects and contraindications have been published while on high dosages in certain people with preexisting medical conditions.  These conditions are outlined with every insert of the hCG hormone.  However, in healthy individuals there have not been any hCG side effects while on the hCG diet protocol.

In some women, being on the hCG diet protocol and taking hCG, may cause delayed menstrual cycle, early menstrual cycle, heavier flow, lighter flow and or heavy cramping.  Your mileage may vary (YMMV).

How much weight can I lose on the hCG diet protocol?

The average weight loss while on the hCG diet protocol,  is anywhere between .5 pounds to 3 pounds a day.  But your YMMV as no one loses the same and men tend to lose faster than women on most diets, even the hCG diet protocol.  Some people seem to lose faster by following Kevin Trudeau’s hCG diet protocol additions.

Will I gain all my weight back after the hCG diet protocol?

YES.  IF you go back to old habits, eating junk food, over eating, not watching what you eat, eating unhealthy foods, leading a sedentary lifestyle and in general just thinking “I’ve lost weight so I can eat now,” than you will gain back weight no matter what diet you decided on even the hCG diet protocol.  That’s a fact.  Obesity is a disease and it’s not about what diet you treat the disease with; it is about how you treat the disease long term to be really cured.

Consider the hCG diet protocol as a giant step toward a healthier you, resting your metabolism, cleansing your body of impurities and gaining control over the disease process caused by junk and processed food, inactivity and unhealthy lifestyle.  For Phase 3 hCG diet tips read the blog post to understand how to go about finding what to eat for you after the hCG diet.

What can I eat on the hCG Diet Plan?

There is a list of hCG diet foods to eat that are best for the hCG diet and a few hCG diet recipes I’ve put together for you to get yourself started.  Also for a list of hCG diet foods and hCG diet recipes you can venture to these links.

How do I mix the hCG ampules?

Mixing hCG is not very difficult and there are good instructions to learn to mix hCG.  Some may find it stressful, mixing hCG for injection or even injecting hCG.  If you prefer oral hCG drops there is a site you can purchase REAL hCG from that we found.  The real oral hCG is potent and just as effective.

How do I know my hCG is working?

hCG must be refrigerated and lasts for up to 40 days.  The older it gets the less potent it is.  The best way to tell if yours is still working is by doing an hCG test. Just follow the directions that come with your hCG test strip.

I realize this issue has been tackled before on your blog, but I was hoping for a little clarification. I would like to start the homeopathic HCG drops next week, about 6 to 7 days prior to starting my period. Aside from possibly gaining or stalling in weight loss, will it effect the diet in the long run? I’m like Jennifer and would like to start soon and get on my way to losing 15 pounds. I am okay with having a few days where I fluctuate because of my period, if that’s the only downside. Thank you so much for any advice you might be able to offer!

Hey guys I was just wondering how much time has to pass between each round. I know 3 days must pass after the drops with the exact same diet, and then 3 weeks with no sugars or starches. Must I do another 3 weeks before starting round 2 of the hcg drops or can I start right after maintenance? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I’ve been on HCG now for 13 days now and TOM showed up while at work, but after my morning 0.5 sublingual dose of HCG. My question is should I take the second dose or just wait the 3 days until TOM leaves?

I have had great results on this diet. Only 12 days and I have lost 10 pound and feel great. Never thought I could give myself a shot and wow..you do not even feel it! I do have one question. I have noticed on 2 occassions when I have a bowel movement a slight tinge of fresh blood. Do I need to be concerned. Not sure what this means. Please reply.

Hi. I’ll be done with my 40 days on August 27, then the 3 days of the 500 calorie diet, but what do I eat on the first day after that? I’ve read things like have a steak first thing in the morning. Other sites have said to just eat anything besides suger and starch. I’m just confused. Any help would be great.
Thanks.

Simon…flawless means….eating exactly what i am told to according to the diet, weighing and measuring everything, drinking more than my 2 liters of water every day. Not sure how to answer my cycle question because I no longer get my period due to having done the novasure procedure. I guess I thought i would lose everyday because that is what all the websites have said. The last four days have been .6, .2, .2. +.2. so I guess i should see what happens tomorrow to see if the four days of stall are here or not. Please forgive me as this is totally new to me! I am beginning to panic because I am trying so hard and not seeing great results!

10 SimonSaysMom August 16, 2010 at 2:21 pm

@ Audra: Okay do not take this wrong, but what do you consider flawless dieting? Exactly how long have you not lost? 4 days is considered a stall. Are you close to your cycle? Women have hormones which causes water retention and weigh does fluctuate up and down. Taking your body measurements is equally important if not more so then the scale weight.

Hi…despite flawless dieting with the VLCD, I mean I am truly sticking to the 500 calories a day, I gained .2 this morning after very little loss the past several days. Any suggestions or comments to help? Thanks

I used one cap of mineral oil in my bath water..It feels to oily but it says we can use it in the book! Has anyone else used it?

13 SimonSaysMom August 11, 2010 at 4:02 am

@ Dana Laz: hCG is drowned out by the Lutenizing Hormone (LH) during this time so taking it just won’t have the same effects. With your cycle it may make your cramps more intense, your cycle longer, come early, stay lat, etc. Also hunger may increase during this time as well as cravings. You are supposed to eat the same 500 calorie diet and pick the hCG back up with your cycle is over.

Some people continue taking the hCG some don’t. That is up to you.

Hi, Been on the VLCD for about 4 days now. Started menstrual cycle (earlier than expected) What should I do. I’m taking the oral drops. Do I continue with drops/diet or what?
Thanks for any help.

15 SimonSaysMom August 10, 2010 at 8:52 am

@ Jennifer: 2 things. With your cycle it may make your cramps more intense, your cycle longer etc. Also there is another hormone that is released Lutenizing hormone (LH) which drowns the hCG out. So if you want to start and can handle the adverse reactions you may experience and then the hCG effects won’t really be felt while the LH is floating around, then okay, that’s up to you.

I have a question as to when I can start this. I know it’s recommended that women start when their cycle is almost over, but I want to start now! Do I have to wait?

@ Juli: My recommend vendor for hCG Diet Kits does supply hCG Mixing Instructions but if you click the link, you will get them also. Just scroll down a bit.
